ROSEMOUNT, Minn (March 12, 2014) -
Tori Workman (So, Prior Lake, Minn)notched nine strikeouts and UW-Stout manufactured a couple of runs in the opener and the Blue Devils came from behind to win the second to take a sweep over St. Olaf, 2-0, 9-7, Wednesday at the Irish Sports Dome.
Workman had at least one strikeout in every inning of the first game, and struck out the last batters of the game to pick up her second win of the season.
The Blue Devils (3-3) got on the board in the second inning when
Nicole Rogers (So, Brooklyn Center, Minn) singled up the middle, then moved to third on a couple of fielders choice plays, then scored when she stole home.
Stout scored again in the third inning, using three hits to their advantage and
Taylor Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) drove in
Sam Hastings (Sr, Waukesha).
The Oles (0-2) had opportunities to score in the final three innings, but Stout kept them off the board. In the fifth, St. Olaf left two stranded as
Tori Workman struck out the final out. In the sixth, with no outs, and a runner on first, but Stout third baseman
Jessica Behnke (Sr, Bruce) made a diving play on a shallow pop bunt, then threw out the lead off batter. After a hit, Workman again recorded a strikeout for the final out of the inning.
In the seventh, the Oles led off with back to back singles. The next batter grounded into a fielder's choice, and Workman struck out the final two batters.
Stout recorded eight hits to St. Olaf's seven hits. Rogers, Hastings and
Kaitlin Stark (So, Hastings, Minn) all went 2-for-3. Workman only issued one walk.
In the second game, St. Olaf took advantage of three first inning Blue Devil errors to score three runs.
Hannah Sweet (Sr, Elk River, Minn) highlighted a five-run third inning when her double drove in three runs.
Taylor Workman (Jr, Prior Lake, Minn) had a sacrifice fly and Hastings drove in a run, and Stout had a 5-3 lead. St. Olaf pulled to within one run with a single run in the bottom of the third.
Stout jumped out to a 9-4 run in the top of the fifth. Hastings led off with a solo home run.

Courtney Smith (So, Dassel, Minn) drive in a run and Rogers scored on a wild pitch.
The Oles' Stephanie Borndale chased
Tori Workman off the mound with a out out, two-run home run in the fifth inning.
Caty Schloer (Fr, Lino Lakes, Minn) came on to finish out the game, getting out of jams in the fifth and seventh innings.Schloer left two stranded in each of the innings, allowing a run in the seventh. finishing the game with runners on second and third and earned the save.
The Oles outhit stout in the game, tallying 10 hits to Stout's eight. St. Olaf's Haley Schreier was 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Becca Walz was 2-for-3 and Brooke Paradise was 2-for-4.
Hastings was 2-for-4 to lead Stout. Workman went 4.1 innings, allowing six runs, four earned and struck out two to get the win. Schloer went 2.2 innings, scattering four hits, allowing one earned run and strking out three for her first collegiate save.
The Blue Devils will be in Clermont, Fla., where they are scheduled to play 10 games from March 15-21.
