Superior puts an end to Stout season in WIAC first round game, 6-3

SUPERIOR (February 25, 2014) - UW-Stout had a big second period, but UW-Superior had an even bigger third period as the Yellowjackets put an end to the Blue Devils' season with a 6-3 decision in the first round of the WIAC men's hockey tournament Tuesday at Wessman Arena.

Trailing 2-0 five minutes into t he second period, the Blue Devils went on a roll to take a 3-2 lead, scoring three goals over a seven minute time frame.

Kevin O'Donnell got things started for Stout, scoring at 6:59, with assists from Jordan Tredinnick and Tryler Cayemberg. Craig Lindegard scored at 10:19 to tie the score at 2-2, with an assist from Logan Maly. Stout took a 3-2 lead at 13:15 when Riley Colvard scored, with assist from Jake Useldinger and Nolan Kirley.

But the Yellowjackets turned up the buzz in the third period. Michael Rey scored his second goal of the night to open the third at 1:59. Jordan Neduzak scored the Yellowjackets' next two goals. scoring at 10:34 and 13:22. Rey, who scored twice against Stout last Friday, recorded the hat trick with a final goal at 18:17 and Stout's season ended.

All nine goals of the night were even strength goals. Stout was 0-for-2 on the power play and Superior 0-for-3.

Corey Koop made 36 saves for Stout and Dayn Belfour made 34 for Superior.

The Yellowjackets will travel to UW-River Falls Friday, Feb. 28 and Saturday, March 1 in the WIAC semi-final round.
