UW-River Falls 3, UW-Stout 2
RIVER FALLS (February 15, 2014) - UW-River Falls scored just before regulation was over to tie the game, then went on to score the game-winning-goal with less than two minutes remaining in the overtime to defeat UW-Stout 3-2 at Hunt Arena Saturday.
With the Blue Devils (7-16-0, 3-7-0 WIAC) leading 2-1 late in the third period, the Falcons' (15-6-3, 7-3-0 WIAC) Christian George scored his second goal of the game, this one coming with 1-minute, 2-seconds left in regulation. George got the hat trick with his third goal of the night coming with 1:36 left in the overtime period.
All of the night's scoring came after the third period began. Stout got things going on a
Zach Vierling (Jr, Coon Rapids, Minn) goal 3:42 into the third period. George scored less than a minute later to tie the score. Both goals were power polay goals.
Stout took the lead back whenÂ
Craig Lindegard (Fr, Hallock, Minn) scored at 13:47 in the final regulation period to give Stout a 2-1 lead. George got the winner with 1:36 left in regulation.
Cory Koop (Fr, Squamish, BC) finished the night with 39 saves for Stout, while Scott Lewan had 21 saves for the Falcons.
The game was a contrast to the game the night before where the Falcons defeated Stout, 9-3.
The Blue Devils will wrap up the regular season next week when they travel to UW-Eau Claire, Thursday, Feb. 20, then will be at home Friday, Feb. 21 to close out the regular season by hosting UW-Superior.
Stout and Superior are locked into the fourth and fifth seeded spots, but next weekend's games will determine which school will be the host for the first round of WIAC play between the two teams, Tuesday, Feb. 25. Superior closes out the regular season by traveling to UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Feb. 22.
