River Falls Falcons roll up Blue Devils with 9-3 win Friday

RIVER FALLS (February 14, 2014) - UW-River Falls rolled out to a 4-0 lead by the end of the first period on their way to a 9-3 win over UW-Stout Friday at Hunt Arena.

The Falcons (13-6-3, 6-3-0 WIAC) chased starter Chase Hollander (Fr, Random Lake) after only 14 minutes as the Falcons scored two power play goals, a shorthanded goal and an even strength goal to send Hollander on his way to the bench.

Stout (7-15-0, 3-6-0 WIAC) did answer back in the second period when Zach Vierling (Jr, Coon Rapids, Minn) scored four minutes after the first intermission.

But the Falcons got to Corey Koop (Fr, Squamish, BC) with two even strength goals before the end of the period.

Stout got a pair of goals to start the third period, with Jordan Tredinnick (Jr, Onalaska) scoring only 32 seconds into the period and Matt Millis (Jr, Black River Falls) scoring on the power play at 5:46 to make it 6-3.

The Falcons scored three more goals, including two by Blake Huppert to close out the game.

Hollander recorded five saves and gave up four goals. Koop recorded 23 saves and gave up five goals. Scott Lewan notched 24 saves for the Falcons.

The two teams will meet again Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7:05 p.m.
