Snow is on the ground. It must be softball season. Stout opens Friday

THIS WEEK'S GAMES: The Blue Devils will open the 2014 season when they travel to St. Cloud, Minn., to meet the College of St. Benedict, Friday, Feb. 14, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game will be held on the campus of St. Cloud State University.

THE 2014 BLUE DEVILS: The Blue Devils return three all-conference players in 2014 selections Sam Hastings and Taylor Workman, and 2013 pick Hannah Sweet. Hastings, a team captain, led the team in runs scored with 41 and was second in home runs with seven. Workman, the team's designated player, earned all-Great Lakes district honors, leading the team in runs batted in with 33 and finsihed with five home runs. Sweet moved from third base to first base last season, garnering a team-best fielding percentage of .972. While her batting average dipped, she still managed to drive in 28 RBI, fourth on the team. Returning starters include second base and team captain Lynzi Knudtson and outfielder Katilin Stark. Tori Workman, an honorable mention selection last season, returns in the circle. Workman, the younger sister of Taylor Workman, posted a 15-7 overall record in her freshman season. Workman marked an ERA of 2.70 and had 79 strikeouts. Tori Workman's batting average of .375 is tops for all returning starters. Nicole Rogers worked 15 innings, mostly in relief.  |  2013 Statistics

COLLEGE OF ST. BENEDICT: The Blazers return all-region picks Kimberly Lidstone and Lexi Alm. Both were all-MIAC picks, with second baseman Lidstone snaring MIAC rookie of the year honors. Lidstone led the Blazers at the plate all season, batting .428 while racking up 62 hits, 39 runs and 21 stolen bases. Her 62 hits finish just one shy of the CSB single season record of 63. Alm coupled with Lidstone to give the Blazers' one of the best one-two punches at the top of the line-up of any team in the league. She finished with a .374 average at the plate, while leading the Blazers in doubles with nine, home runs with seven and RBI with 39. She earns All-MIAC honors for the second straight season, and ranked fifth in the conference in home runs and stolen bases (18), sixth in RBI and runs, while leading the league in walks (22). Pitchers Rachel Nelson and Emily Engelmeier, both all-MIAC honorable mention selections, return. Nelson went 11-8 for a team that went 20-18, finishing with an ERA of 3.28, with 101 strikeouts. Englemeier posted an 8-7 record with a 3.67 ERA and 74 strikeouts. | 2013 Statistics
