Falcons down Stout with three goal run over end of second, start of third

RIVER FALLS (December 4, 2014) - UW-River Falls used a three goal run over the end of the second period and early in the third period to break apart a one goal game and went on to a 7-3 win over UW-Stout Thursday at Hunt Arena.

Just seconds after Stout (2-6-1, 0-1-0 WIAC) pulled to within 3-2 on Jake Useldinger 's (Jr, East Grand Forks, Minn) first goal of the night at 14:14 of the second period on a power play goal, the Falcons (8-0-0, 1-0-0 WIAC) answered right back with a shorthanded goal to make the score 4-2. The undefeated Falcons added an even strength goal at 17:37 and another two minutes into the third period and it was a 6-2 lead.

Useldinger broke the run with his second goal of the night midway through the final period, on an assist by Jordan Tredinnick (Sr, Onalaska). River Falls added another goal late in the game to close out the scoring.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead with two goals in the first period. Justin Moody (So, Grand Forks, ND) put Stout on the board four minutes into the second period, with assists by Craig Lindegard (So, Hallock, Minn) and Useldinger. River Falls made it 3-1 on a power play goal by Mike Fazio halfway through the second period.

Spencer Viele (So, Wildwood, Mo) gave up five goals and made 18 stops before giving way to Chase Hollander (So, Random Lake) who gave up the final two goals and made nine saves. The Falcons' Tanner Milliron recorded 30 saves. Six different Falcons scored goals. Mitch Kontney scored twice.

The teams combined for more goals than penalties. Stout was whistled for four penalties for eight minutes. The Falcons had five penalties for 21 minutes. Stout was 1-for-3 on the power play, the Falcons 2-for-3.

Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Dec. 6, then will take a Christmas break before returning to action Friday, Jan. 9 when they host MSOE.
