Archived VideoMENOMONIE (November 21, 2014) - UW-Stout scored three goals in the final period to net their first win of the season, a 4-1 win over Finlandia University Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Lions (1-5-0) took the lead in the first period, when Tim Santopoalo scored with 11 seconds left in the first period. Stout held a huge advantage in shots in the first period, outshooting the Lions, 23-6 in the stanza.
Stout (1-5-0) got on the board in the second period when
Tyler Shipstad three minutes into the period to record his first collegiate goal. Shipstad was assisted by
Tyler Cayemberg and
Joey Haydock. Finlandia outshot Stout, 16-5 in the period.
The Blue Devils got their offense in high gear in the final period.
Carl Bombardier, with an assist by
Nolan Kirley, scored midway through the period to break the tie.
Justin Moody scored his second goal of the season with four minutes remaining on an assist by Jake Useldiger.
Jordan Stejskal scored an empty net goal with just over a minute remaining.
Stout outshot Finlandia, 37-25 on the night. Stout's
Spencer Viele had 24 saves, and Finlandia's Andrew Bownlee had 33 saves.
Stout will host Lawrence University, Saturday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
