Blue Devil womens basketball falls in first game of the season

DE PERE (November 15, 2014) - Sophomore Jenna Goldsmith (St. Anthony, Minn) scored a career-best 15 poiints and Sarah Schoch (So, Chippewa Falls) broke into double figures in her first game as a UW-Stout player, but the Blue Devils fell to host St. Norbert College, 64-57, Saturday at the St. Norbert Tournament.

Stout (0-1) led early, but once St.Norbert (1-0) took the lead in the first half, they would only relinquish it once in the second half whe Schoch hit a 3-pointer at the 16 minutes mark to give the Blue Devils a shortt-lived 34-33 lead. The Green Knights took the lead back for good and built as much as a 15 point lead before Stout chipped away to the final seven point deficit.

Goldsmith was 6-for-10 with three free throws to lead Stout. Schoch drained four 3-pointers to account for the majority of her points, connecting on 5-of-9 overall and 4-of-6 from long distance.

Katelynne Folkers (Sr, Fall Creek) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Green Knights were led by Brianna Byrnne with 16 points. Heidi Van Sistine scored 14 points and Regan Carmichael dropped in 13.

Stout shot 37 percent (20-of-54) from the field, 6-of-12 from 3-point range.  Stout was almost perfect at the line, hitting 11-of-12 charity shots. The Green Knights hit on 44.3 percent of their shots from the field (27-of-61) and were 6-of-19 from 3-point range.

Stout will meet Carroll University, Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. in the final day of the tournament.
