Archived VideoMENOMONIE (November 15, 2014) - St. Thomas scored on the power play and shorthanded, then topped off the night with an empty net goal on their way to downing UW-Stout, 4-0, Saturday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Tommies scored on the power play when Alex Altenbernd scored with four minutes left in the first period. The Tommies (2-2-2) Bobby Murphy scored shorthanded six minutes into the second period. Jordan Lovick scored at even strength with less than two minutes remaining in the game and 30 seconds later Jeremy Hepler scored on an empty net.
The Blue Devils (0-5-0) started off playing even with the Tommies, outshooting them 15-12 in the first period. But the Tommies put the wood to the puck in the final two periods, getting a 14-5 and 12-6 advantage in the final two periods to hold a 38-26 advantage at the end of the game.
Spencer Viele (So, Wildwood, Mo) recorded 34 saves for Stout, while Drew Fielding recorded the shutout for the Tommies with 26 saves.
Stout will host Finlandia University, Friday, Nov. 21 and Lawrence University, Saturday, Nov. 22.
