Jarvis Ragland (Sr, Milwaukee) added 12, but the Blue Devils dropped the season-opener to Ripon College, 94-79, at the Gabe Miller Tip-off tournament in Platteville Saturday night.
Stout (0-1) kept the game close for much of the first half, even taking the lead 21-18 after an Ahsenmacher three-pointer with 11:42 left in the half. Ripon (1-0) quickly regained the lead on their next two possesions, going up 23-21, and would not trail the rest of the contest.
At halftime, Stout trailed 51-40. In the second, trailing 72-50, the Blue Devils went on an 18-6 run over a four and half minute period to draw within ten, 78-68 with 6:27 remaining in the game.
The Blue Devils would draw even closer with 3:40 to go, when a pair of Ragland free throws cut the lead to nine, 83-74. That would be as close as Stout would get, as Ripon closed out the game on an 11-5 run.
Ragland led the team with nine rebounds and tied with
John Keefe (Fr, Medford) and Corey Speer (Jr, Elgin, Minn.) for a team-high four assists. Ragland scored nine of his 12 points in the second half.
Ahsenmacher had three steals while shooting 6-of-13 from the field, including 4-for-8 from downtown. Keefe had 11 points and
Jalen Patterson (Fr, Lauderdale, Minn.) chipped in nine with both players coming off the bench for the Blue Devils.
For Ripon, Kyle Loughrin had 32 points on 10-11 shooting and teammate Ty Sabin added 31 on 11-17 shooting.
Stout will be back in action tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., taking on Coe College in their final game of the Miller Tip-off in Platteville. The Blue Devils will kick off the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, Nov. 29 at the UW-Stout Thanksgiving Turkey Shootout against Wartburg College at Johnson Fieldhouse.
