Five to enter UW-Stout Athletic Hall of Fame October 25

Luke Bundgaard and Ben Knepper were members of the 2000 WIAC championship team and played on some of the top teams along with quarterback Nick Ohman. Jeff Dotson was the goalkeeper for the Blue Devil hockey team. Sara Kahl played on a WIAC championship women's basketball team and helped to set the stage for a great deal of Blue Devil success over the next decade.

MENOMONIE (June 30, 2014) – The early 21st century is featured in the 2014 UW-Stout Athletic Hall of Fame class, with five record setting athletes whose names still set prominently towards the top of their respective sports' record books.
 
Luke Bundgaard (2000-03) and Ben Knepper (2000-03)  were members of the 2000 WIAC championship team and played on some of the top teams along with quarterback Nick Ohman (2001-04). Jeff Dotson was the goalkeeper for the Blue Devil hockey team from 2000-04. Sara Kahl (2000-04) played on a WIAC championship women's basketball team and helped to set the stage for a great deal of Blue Devil success over the next decade.
 
Kahl and Ohman are the first married couple to enter the UW-Stout Hall of Fame at the same time. Stout has one other married couple, gymnasts Terri Traczyk and Mark Rezac, who were inducted in different years. Charles W. Sorensen will receive the UW-Stout Athletic Distinguished Service Award.
 
The Hall of Fame festivities are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25. The inductees will be introduced at halftime of the UW-Stout/UW-Platteville football game, which will get underway at 2 p.m. at Don & Nona Williams Stadium. The banquet and induction will be in the Great Hall of the UW-Stout Memorial Student Center, beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the event are $35 for adult, $20 for 12-years-and-under. Luke Bundgaard
No one carried the football as many times as Luke Bundgaard, a workhorse tailback for the Blue Devils from 2000-03. Bundgaard went on to become UW-Stout's all-time leading rusher and leading scorer. Bundgaard set the conference all-time rushing record with 4427 yards (since broken) and was named to the WIAC Centennial All-Time Football Team. Along the way, Bundgaard set school career records for points scored (240), yards (4427), carries (922) and TDs (40). Bundgaard rushed for more than 100 yards in 21 games.  In 2003, Budgaard set single season records for rushing yards (1461) and carries (294). During his freshman season in 2000, a year the Blue Devils captured the WIAC crown, Bundgaard set the school record for most yards in a single game, running for 335 yards against UW-Platteville, a game he set the record for most carries (45) and tied the school record with four TDs. Flash ahead to 2003, his senior year, and it was like deja vu against Platteville. Bundgaard carried the ball a record 53 times, ran for 328 yards (second most in school history) to break the conference rushing record and scored four TDs. Bundgaard was a four-time All-WIAC selection, three times first team. He was selected to the USA Football.com Freshman All-America team and earned second team All-America honors as a senior and played in the Aztec Bowl, an all-star game for Division III players.
 
Jeff Dotson
Jeff Dotson was a tall, lanky goalie who took advantage of his physical attributes to earn AHCA West All-American first team honors. Dotson become the first UW-Stout player to earn Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) player of the year honors. During his four-year career spanning 2000-04, Dotson kicked aside a school-best 2226 shots and posted what was then a school record for career saves percentage (.912) and goals against average (3.45). Dotson appeared in 73 games  and earned a then-school record 28 wins. As a sophomore, Dotson earned national player of the week honors after stopping 57 shots in a 2-1 win over nationally ranked UW-River Falls. Dotson recorded 63 saves against defending national champion UW-Superior during his junior season. During his senior year, Dotson recorded a school record four shutouts, posted a then school record GAA of 2.76, recorded 57 saves against Lake Forest and 54 saves to earn a tie with top-ranked St. Norbert.
 
Sara Kahl
A four-year starter from 2000-04, Sara Kahl played in 106 games over her career and scored in 105 of them. Kahl earned first team All-WIAC and third team all-region honors during her senior season, a year that saw her lead Stout in scoring (14.0) and rebounds (5.7). Kahl ranked fourth in league play in scoring, second in steals (2.89) and 13th in rebounds. As a senior, Kahl led the Blue Devils in scoring in 13 games and scored a career-high 25 points against Kalamazoo College. Kahl scored her 1000th career point and went on to finish her career with 1119 points, currently 11th on the UW-Stout all-time scoring list. Her 469 rebounds is currently 13th on the all-time list.
 
Ben Knepper
One of the most decorated offensive linemen in UW-Stout football history, Ben Knepper, who played from 2001-03, was a two-time All-American and during his senior year was selected first team All-America by five publications - AP Little All-America, American Football Coaches Association, D3football.com, College Sports Information Directors and Don Hansen Weekly Football Gazette. Approximately 65 percent of the plays were run to Knepper's side in 2003. A two-time first team All-WIAC selection (2002, 2003), Knepper allowed only one sack during his last two years, that coming in the first game of his junior year, going more than 700 consecutive plays without allowing a sack. Knepper, who played in the 2003 Aztec Bowl, was selected to the WIAC Centennial All-Time football team in 2012.
 
Nick Ohman
One of the most complete quarterbacks in UW-Stout football history, Nick Ohman was as comfortable running the ball as he was throwng the ball. Ohman, a second team All-American and a unanimous All-WIAC selection his senior year, threw for 6401 career yards, completing 479-of-936 passes and rushed for 1925 yards. With a 25-13 record, Ohman was the winningest quarterback in school history. During his senior year, Ohman was the team's leading rusher, gaining 892 yards on 174 carries and four touchdowns. Five times during his senior year, Ohman recorded 100-yard plus rushing days, accomplishing the feat seven times in his career.  Ohman, a four-year starter, played in 38 games over his career and either completed a touchdown pass or ran for a touchdown in 35 games. Sixteen times, Ohman threw for more than 100 yards in a game and eight times threw for three or more touchdowns. Ohman was selected as the WIAC offensive player of the week 10 times over his career and four-times earned national player of the week honors. In a 31-21 win over nationally ranked UW-La Crosse in 2004, Ohman collected 472 yards of total offense, completing 30-of-47 passes for 347 yards and two TDs and rushed for 125 yards and a score. Upon graduation, Ohman was the Blue Devils' fifth all-time leading rusher and is still today the third all-time passing leader. He threw for 56 touchdowns, currently third on the all-time list.
