MENOMONIE (July 30, 2015) - With the UW-Stout student-athlete always at the forefront, the UW-Stout athletic department kicks off its annual Blue Devil Club effort today. Season tickets for the upcoming year also go on sale today.

"Everything we do revolves around having better equipment, improved facilities and retaining high-quality coaches so that our student-athletes can continue to be more successful," said Duey Naatz, who begins his sixth year in the role of UW-Stout athletic director. "Our athletic department, with the help of the Blue Devil Club members, continues to make strides in achieving our No. 1 goal - increasing the student-athlete experience."

The Blue Devil Club has been designed for all Blue Devil supporters to have one appeal that will allow them to give back at whatever level they wish, Naatz said. The 2014-15 Blue Devil Club effort saw an increase in overall donors and donation dollars. The Blue Devil Club had 122 donors with donations exceeding $40,000.

Donations can be made to the general athletic department, a sport or sports of the donor's choice, a major facility upgrade or to purchase a season pass. | Make a Donation

Blue Devil teams were able to purchase four new weight lifting platforms, new uniforms, upgrade branding in the Johnson Fieldhouse, and allowed for an increase in recruiting budgets and to fund assistant coaching staff positions.

"With close to 4,000 athletic alumni," Naatz said, "our goal for 2015-16 is to reach more than 400 Blue Devil Club members raise more than $100,000. Helping us to reach these goals will allow us to take steps in bringing a better overall experience to our student-athletes and becoming a top WIAC and NCAA Division III program."

Recap of 2014-15
Once again during the 2014-15 year, the Blue Devil athletic department had many student-athletes receive recognition with 35 all-WIAC selections, 13 All-America awards and one WIAC scholar-athlete. The women's golf team won the conference tournament for the second time in three years and finished ninth at the NCAA Division III Championship, the best finish in program history. The men's cross country team qualified as a team to nationals for the first time since 1986. The gymnastics team returned to the national championship and earned an individual national championship on the floor exercise. UW-Stout was selected to host the 2017 national gymnastics championship. Records were broken throughout the season and in particular in gymnastics, women's golf and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field.

Academics
The year marked the fourth year of the scholar-athlete banquet program. This initiative has inspired the student-athletes and 131 were recognized with a 3.5 or higher cumulative grade point average, an increase of 40 from the first year of the program. For the fifth consecutive year, Blue Devil student-athletes have had a higher GPA compared to the UW-Stout general population.
