MENOMONIE (October 7, 2014) - On a brisk fall night at Nelson Field, the UW-Stout's soccer team fell to the Pipers of Hamline University, 2-0.
The two teams matched each other with six shots apiece, but Hamline was able to put five on goal compared to just three for Stout. The Blue Devils took six corner kicks compared to just two for the Pipers.
Hamline scored once in each half with the first goal coming in the 10th minute when Malya Hirshkowitz sent a looping shot to the upper right corner of the net that just evaded Stout goalie
Paige Meyer's (Jr, Beldenville) outstretched arms. The Pipers added their second goal in the 88th minute when Anna Futterer poked one past Meyer.
Stout's best chance at scoring came on a
Kelly Conn (So, Menasha) penalty kick early in the second half that Hamline goalie Amy Ramras just got her hands on.
Sarah Todey (So, Maple Grove, Minn.) and
Megan Collins (Jr, Maple Grove, Minn.) also had shots on goal that were turned away by Ramras, who had three saves on the night. For the Blue Devils, Meyer also had three saves.
The Blue Devils will be back in action this Friday, Oct. 10 when they take on UW-Superior at Nelson Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
