MENOMONIE (October 4, 2014) - UW-Stout goalie
Paige Meyer (Jr, Beldenville) saved nine shots, including a crucial save as time expired in regulation, as the Blue Devils matchup with UW-La Crosse ended in a scoreless tie on a cold and windy afternoon at Nelson Field.
Both teams attacked the nets all game, but were unable to come away with anything to show for it. The Eagles (3-2-4, 1-0-2 WIAC) attempted 17 shots (nine on goal) and the Blue Devils (2-5-3, 1-1-1 WIAC) launched 12 shots (two on goal) of their own. Stout's
Lauren Kizlik (So, Hammond) took six shots, narrowly missing wide or high on three of them and had another one stopped by La Crosse's Ashley Tracy.
Kelly Conn (So, Menasha) and
Lindsey Concon (Jr, Ashland) also had a pair of shots for the Blue Devils, with one of Conn's being on goal.
It was Meyer in the net for Stout who was the hero of the game though, as she made a number of tough saves throughout the game. No save was more important than the one she made with time winding down in the second half, when a La Crosse forward broke toward the right side of the goal. Meyer came up to meet her and made a sliding save while the clock ran out, preserving the scoreless tie. In overtime, Meyer recorded three more saves to keep the game scoreless. Tracy saved two shots for the Eagles.
Up next, Stout will take on UW-River Falls in a make-up game tomorrow evening, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. at Nelson Field. The Blue Devils also play at home on Tuesday, Oct. 7 and Friday, Oct. 10 against Hamline University and UW-Superior, respectively.
