UW-Eau Claire 1, UW-Stout 0EAU CLAIRE (October 29, 2014) - UW-Eau Claire scored in the 33rd minute and kept UW-Stout off the board as the Blugolds won the first "Battle of the Blues" 1-0 Wednesday at Bollinger Field.
Caroline Henderson scored at 33:32 in the first half for the only goal of the game.
The Blue Devils (4-9-3, 2-4-1 WIAC) outshot the Blugolds (6-9-2, 4-3-0 WIAC), 16-12, and had one more corner kick (4-3), but both teams put three shots on frame. The Kizlik sisters led Stout's offensive attack, with
Lauren Kizlik (So, Hammond) getting six shots, one on net, and
Jenna Kizlik (Jr, Hammond) getting three shots, one on frame.
Kelly Conn (So, Menasha) had two shots.
Paige Meyer (Jr, Beldenville) had two saves for Stout, while Rachel Griffiths had three saves of the Blugolds.
The Blugolds will hold the recently commissioned traveling trophy, representing legendary Paul Bunyan's ax.
Stout will close out the regular season Saturday, Nov. 1 when they travel to UW-Stevens Point for a 2 p.m. match-up. The WIAC Championship begins Tuesday, Nov. 4.
