Blue Devils hockey team blanked by Blugolds

MENOMONIE (January 31, 2014) - UW-Eau Claire scored twice in the first period, then added a goal in each of the following two periods to take a 4-0 shutout win over UW-Stout Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

The Blugolds' Ross Andersen scored less than three minutes into the game and Jon Waggoner added another at the 7:58 mark.

The Blugolds (13-4-1, 2-2-1 WIAC) outshot Stout (6-12-0, 2-3-0 WIAC) in the first period, but Stout outshot Eau Claire in the second period, 10-9. The game bogged down into penalties. Both teams took four penalties apiece in the second period, and Eau Claire's Andersen scored his second goal of the night on a 4-of-4 situation four minutes into the stanza.

Eau Claire took advantage on the power play in the third period when Patrick Moore scored six minutes into the period where the Blugolds outshot Stout, 11-5. On the evening, Eau Claire put 32 shots on net compared to 23 for Stout.

Tyler Green got the win for the Blugolds. Corey Koop (Fr, Squamish, BC) took the loss, giving up three goals and making 11 saves. Chase Hollander came on midway through the second period, recording 17 saves. He gave up his first goal of the year, a third period power play goal.

The two teams will meet again Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
