UW-Superior 6, UW-Stout 1
SUPERIOR (January 17, 2014) - UW-Superior scored five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, on their way to downing UW-Stout, 6-1, Friday at Wessman Arena.
The Yellowjackets got third period goals anyway available - even strength, power play and shorthanded.
Superior opened the game with a goal by Marc Fortin five minutes into the contest, but Stout answered back with a
Joey Haydock goal with less than four minutes left in the period. Haydock was assisted by
Zach Vierling and
Shayne McLaughlin.
Superior took the lead in the second on a power play goal by Michael Ray with 10 seconds left in the period. Then, the Yellowjackets caught fire, scoring five goals in just over five minutes of game time. Ray scored at 8:03 in the third. Connor Faupel scored on the power play at 10:30, Pat Dalbec shorthanded at 11:10 and Jordan Shockley closed out the scoring at 13:42 with an even strength goal.
Stout's
Corey Koop recorded 36 saves. The Yellowjackets' Drew Strandburg notched 24 saves.
The two teams are scheduled to play again Saturday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m. in Superior.
