Softball Preview: Stout hits the road for first time in two weeks

Live Stats

THIS WEEK'S GAMES: With a win over UW-Oshkosh Sunday, UW-Stout (21-11, 9-7 WIAC) clinched a berth in the WIAC Softball Championship, May 3-5 at a site yet to be determined. In all likelihood, it looks like Stout will hold the fourth seed in the tournament. While Stout has completed their conference schedule, there are still plenty of games to be played around the league over the first part of this week, and the tournament seeding and site will not be determined until Wednesay when the final game is scheduled to be played. Stout has played their last 12 games at home, with home being Don & Nona Williams Stadium this year. Stout has a non-conference game scheduled at Hamline University (16-14, 12-8 MIAC), Tuesday, April 30.  This season, Stout has had to cancel non-conference games with Northwestern College, Carleton College and Gustavus Adolphus College

THE BLUE DEVILS: After 12 consecutive games at home, the Blue Devils will take to the road for the remainder of the season.  The Blue Devils have three players who have recorded 28 or more RBI this year - Taylor Workman (30), Alison Gray (30) and Sam Hastings (30). Not surprisingly, all three are power hitters, but they are all leaders on the team in average. Workman is hitting .392 (31-79) with seven doubles and five home runs. Gray is hitting .385 (380194) with five doubles and nine home runs. Hastings is hitting .336 (38-113) with seven doubles and seven home runs. Erin Moss leads the everyday hitters in average at .398 (43-108) with seven doubles, three triple and three home runs. Moss has 13 stolen bases. As a team, Stout is posting a batting average of .312 and 33 total home runs. Pitcher Tori Workman is hitting .397 (25-63). As a team, Stout last reached a batting average of .300 was in 2000 when they batted .300. The 33 home runs far surpasses the 24 home runs hit in 2005.  In the circle, Tori Workman has a 14-7 overall record in the circle with 67strikeouts. Laura Vanderhoof has a 7-3 record with 46 strikeouts.  | 2013 Statistics

BLUE DEVILS LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout held a two run lead over UW-Oshkosh Sunday, lost it in the top of the seventh, then went on to win the contest, 4-3, on Taylor Workman's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Then, nothing went right and the Blue Devils lost a 15-0, five inning decision in the final home game of the season.

HAMLINE UNIVERSITY: The Pipers are currently in third place in the MIAC and have qualified for the MIAC tournamen this weekend. But with other games to play around the MIAC, Hamline could still move up or down in the seeding depending how the rest of the league shakes out. Bethany Hine leads the Pipers in average (.363/37-102) and Laura Randall leads the team in RBI (25) and right behind Hine in average (.355/37-76). Randall has a team-best five home runs.
