MENOMONIE (April 27, 2013) - After getting handcuffed in the first game, UW-Stout threw down the shackles and went on to earn a win in the second contest with UW-Superior Saturday at Don & Nona Williams Stadium. The Yellowjackets held Stout to four hits in a 4-1 first game decision, but the Blue Devils pounded out 11 hits in a 9-3 nightcap win.
The Yellowjackets' Amanda Le Bard kept Stout (20-10, 8-6 WIAC) off the scoreboard until
Alison Gray (Sr, St. Cloud, Minn) lifted a solo home run to lett field in the seventh inning for Stout's only run. Le Bard had pitched 13 scoreless innings previous to Gray's home run.
Le Bard, while not overpowering - she recorded only two strikeouts - kept Stout off balance throughout the game and the Yellowjacket (14-17, 5-9 WIAC) defense backed her up with three double plays in the contest.
But the Blue Devils found their stroke in the second games. With Le Bard making the start, Stout's bats popped to life, tallying five hits and four runs before being replaced early in the third inning.
Hannah Sweet (Jr, Elk Lake, Minn) gave Stout a 3-0 lead in the top of the second with a three run home run. The 'Jackets scored two run in the bottom of the second.
Sam Hastings (Jr, Waukesha) recorded a lead off double in the third and Le Bard got the hook.
Erin Moss (Sr, Munster, Ind) pushed Hastings to third and the pair executed a double steal as Hastings scored.
Stout took control of the game with a four-run fourth, on a two-run double by Moss and a two-run single by Gray. Each team added one more run.
Tori Workman (Fr, Prior Lake, Minn) went the distance to get the win for Stout, striking out three.
Stout will host UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, April 28 at Williams Stadium at 1 p.m. in the Blue Devils' final home game of the season.
