MENOMONIE (April 25, 2013) - Pinch hitter Nicole Rogers (Fr, Brooklyn Center, Minn) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to give UW-Stout a 5-3 win over UW-Eau Claire, but the Blugolds returned the favor when Amanda Fischer hit a three-run home run in the top of the 10th for a 12-9 Eau Claire win in the nightcap Thursday at Williams Stadium.

In the opener, Eau Claire (19-4, 7-1 WIAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and that carried into the fifth inning when the Blugolds added another run. Stout (19-9, 7-5 WIAC) got on on the board in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by Hannah Sweet (Jr, Elk River, Minn).

The Blugolds added another run in the top of the sixth to take a 3-1 lead, but Stout's Alison Gray (Sr, St. Cloud, Minn) tied the score with a two run home run.

After keeping the Blugolds off the board in the seventh, Kailtin Stark (Fr, Hastings, Minn) opened the bottom half of the inning with a walk. then was moved to second Jessica Nicol's (Sr, Eau Claire) sacrifice bunt, bringing up Rogers who sent the ball over the fence to end the game.

The nightcap featured big plays. Fischer gave Eau Claire a 3-1 lead with three-run home run in the first inning, and Nikki Brooks followed with a solo shot and a 4-0 Blugold lead.

Stout would match that in the bottom half of the inning when Sweet hit a grand slam and Stark followed with a solo home run to give Stout a 5-4 lead. Eau Claire added a run in the second and put four on the board in the third, highlighted by Sarah Fern's three-run double.

The Blue Devils' Taylor Workman (So, Prior Lake, Minn) hit a two-run home run in the fifth to pull Stout to within 9-7 and Workman drove in two more runs in the sixth with a double to tie the score.

Eau Claire threatened in the seventh, loading the bases. Gray, playing third base, forced a runner at home and a groundout left three stranded.

Neither team could get anything going until the Blugolds had back-to-back hits in the 10th and Fischer drove them home with her second three-run home run of the night.

Both Workman and Sweet finished the game with four RBI, with Workman going 3-for-4 in the contest. Fischer was 2-for-6 with six RBI for the Blugolds. Sarah Fern was 3-for-5 with four RBI.

Stout will host UW-Superior, Saturday, April 27 at noon, and UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, April 28 at 1 p.m.
