Stout downs previously undefeated Stevens Point, 3-2

STEVENS POINT (December 7, 2013) - UW-Stout scored three consecutive goals and Corey Koop (Fr, Squamish, BC) made 59 saves as the Blue Deivls defeated previously undefeated UW-Stevens Point, 3-2, Saturday at KB Willet Arena.

The Poitners (9-1-0, 1-1-0 WIAC), who would go on to outshoot Stout 61-17, opened the scoring when Nic D'Avollo scored at 6:30 in the first period.

#Kevin O'Donnell (Sr, Stoughton) tied the score for Stout (3-7-0, 1-1-0 WIAC) at 14:07 in the second, but it was the third period that Stout pulled ahead.

Hunter Scott (Fr, Eau Claire) scored a power play goal at 9:04 in the third period and Zach Vierling (Jr, Coon Rapids, Minn) followed that up at 11:43.

The Pointers pulled to within one goal when Joel Kalisz scored on a power play goal with just over two minutes left.

Koop made his 59th and final save of the game when he turned back a shot on net by the conference's leading scorer, Garrett Ladd with less than 30 seconds left as the Pointers had an extra attacker on the ice.

Stout made the most of their shots, scoring on three of 17 shots on goal.

Koop, meanwhile, stopped 20 shots in the first period, 19 in the second and 20 again in the third to earn Stout's win.

The victory was an early Christmas present for coach Terry Watkins who was coaching his 700th UW-Stout game.

Stout is off until they travel to the Oswego State Tournament Jan. 3-4.
