2013-14 BLUE DEVILS (0-0-0, 0-0-0 WIAC): It's a new season, with an old twist. The Blue Devils, along with the other four UW schools, pulled out of the NCHA and will play solely in the five-team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). When Stout started playing a varsity program back in the early 1970s, they were a member of only the WIAC. But when Stout returned to varsity status after a nearly 15-year hiatus in 1996, they brought the WIAC back to a five-time league, thereby sponsored by the league, and also joined the NCHA, making that league an eight-team league. The Blue Devils bring a team to the new season where the roster is half new with 14 first year players to the 28-man roster. Stout does return their top scorer in senior forward Kevin O'Donnell, who scored 12 goals and 12 assists. But they return only three of their top 10 scorers from last year. O'Donnell leads the way. Zach Vierling scored eight goals and eight assists, while defenseman Jordan Tredinnick scored four goals and 10 assists. O'Donnell, Vierling and Tredinnick were all key players on the power play. O'Donnell had two power play goals and four assists. Tredinnick had one power play goal and five power play assists, while Vierling had two power play goals and two assists. Stout returns no goalies that saw starting time. Eric Wobschall saw action in two games for 28 minutes, while Brad Wohlers was added to the roster at mid-season, but did not see the ice. Wohlers saw ice time in 2001-12. Newcomers Corey Koop and Chase Hallander are expected to vie for time between the pipes.

2012-13 BLUE DEVILS (10-13-2, 5-13-0 NCHA): After a hot start to the season, Stout finished the 2012-13 season with a 10-15-2 overall record, 5-13-0 in their last season in the NCHA and 2-10-0 in the WIAC.  | 2012-13 Statistics

STOUT'S LAST TIME OUT: UW-Stout lost a pair of 3-2 NCHA quarterfinal contests at St. Norbert College to close out the 2012-13 season.

SCOUTING MARIAN UNIVERSITY (0-0-0, 0-0-0 NCHA): Similar to UW-Stout, Marian University brings 12 first year players to their roster, but do return three of their top four scorers and their top goalie from last season. Forward Tyler Klein led the Sabres with 15 goals and six assists. Defenseman Brian Berger scored eight goals and 11 assists, while junior forward Aaron Leonard popped in four goals and 12 assists. Josh Baker logged in nearly 1200 minutes and posted a 2.44 goals against average, a .920 save percentage and an 11-8-1 overall record. The Sabres posted an overall 13-12-1 record with a 12-8-0 conference record, finishing second in the MCHA. With the exception of the Nov. 17, 2008, USCHO.com poll, Stout had been ranked in the top 15 since the Nov. 13, 2006, poll. Stout made their first appearance in the poll on Nov. 27, 2000, when they received one vote, then moved up to 10th the following week. The 2008-09 season ending poll matched Stout's previous high mark of second  in the Jan. 29, 2007, poll. Stout opened the 2009-10 season ranked third, their highest-ever season-opening ranking, but fell out of the polls midway through the season and returned to the top 15, Nov. 22, 2010. Stout was in the 2011-12 USCHO.com poll early in the season, dropped out, returned again, but  dropped out. Then last year, as the seventh seed, they went 0-1-1 at St. Scholastica to again end their season early.
