MENOMONIE (January 4, 2012) - Kevin O'Donnell (Jr, Stoughton) scored two goals and UW-Stout came back after a 26-day layoff to down Bethel University, 5-1, Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
O'Donnell opened the scoring very early in the game, getting a goal 1-minute, 35-seconds into the contest, with assists by
Joe Beaudette (Blaine, Minn) and
Sam Carr (Sr, Roseau, Minn).
The Blue Devils (7-5-2) tallied three goals in the opening stanza.
Danny Ray (Fr, Grand Forks, ND) picked up his second goal of the seasonat the 6:59 mark, with assists from
Tate Rusk (Fr, Brainerd, Minn) and
Casey Kirley (So, Hayward).
Zach Vierling (So, Coon Rapids, Minn) closed out the first period scoring at 19:16 of the period, with assist from
Garrett Grimstad (Sr, Rochester, Minn) and
Russell Whited (Jr, Indianapolis, Ind).
Stout scored twice in short period of time in the second period. With a 46 second time span, O'Donnell scored his second goal of the night at 15:10 and Kirley grabbed his second goal of the season at 15:56. Beaudette and Whited assisted O'Donnell, while
Charles Lachance (Sr, Quebec City, Quebec) and
Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) got the helpers for Kirley.
The Royals (6-8-0) got their only goal of the contest early in the third period on a tally by MItch Hughes.
Stout's
Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) recorded 19 saves on the night to get his sixth win of the season, while Matt Rowe recorded 26 saves for the Royals.
Stout will host Hamline University, Saturday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 p.m. The Blue Devils will host UW-River Falls in a return to conference action, Friday, Feb. 11 and Saturday, Feb. 12.
