Blue Devils blow open game with three second period goals, down 'Jackets

MENOMONIE (January 26, 2013) - UW-Stout scored three second period goals and went on to a 4-1 win over UW-Superior Saturday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

One night after blowing a two goal lead, the Blue Devils held tough against the Yellowjackets after building up the big lead in the second period.

Gavin Tufte (Fr, Ham Lake, Minn) broke the tie when he scored his first goal as a Blue Devil, getting the marker at 1:39 of the second period. He was assisted by Scott Bell (So, Eagan, Minn) and Charles Lachance (Sr, Quebec City, Quebec).

Just over two minutes later, Stout pulled out to a two goal lead on a score Mike Hartviksen (Jr, Thunder Bay, Ont), with assists by Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) and Joe Beaudette (Sr, Blaine, Minn).

With bodies flying around and behind the net, Zach Vierling (So, Coon Rapids, Minn) scored his eighth goal of the season at hte 11:07 mark, with assists by Hartviksen and Garrett Grimstad (Sr, Rochester, Minn) and Stout took a 4-1 lead into the final stanza.

Blue Devil goal Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) recorded 11 saves in the final period and tallied 30 on the night. Ryan Pinoniemi had 19 saves for Superior.

Stout opened the scoring when Bell scored midway through the opening period. But less than a minute later, Superior equaled the score when Jeff Forsythe scored.
