Blue Devils can't hold off St. Scholastica, drop 4-3 decision to Saints

DULUTH, Minn. (January 25, 2013) - With the score tied 1-1 heading into the third period, UW-Stout took a 3-1 lead, but could not hold that lead as St. Scholastica came back with three unanswered goals to down the Blue Devils, 4-3, at Mars Lakeview Arena, Friday.

The Saints (8-12-1, 4-9-1 NCHA) opened up the scoring when Keegan Bruce scored at 13:14 of the first period, but Stout's Mike Hartviksen (Jr, Thunder Bay, Ont) evened the score two minutes into the second period on a power play goal, getting assists from Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) and Garrett Grimstad (Sr, Rochester, Minn).

The rest of the second period was silent and Stout (9-9-2, 4-9-0 NCHA) assumed control early in the third period. Grimstad, with assists from Hartviksen and Cohen, scored at 5:48 ih the third. The Blue Devils made it a 3-1 lead when Danny Ray (Fr, Grand Forks, ND) scored on the power play at 9:31. He was assisted by Ricky Doriott (Sr, Blaine, Minn) and Joe Beaudette (Sr, Blaine, Minn).

The Saints then closed the lid on the Blue Devils, and opened up their own net with three straight goals.

Tyler Miller scored on the power play at 1257 to pull the Saints within one, 3-2. Dylan Nowakowski scored at 16:01 to knot the score and Brett Corcoran got the game winner with 20 seconds left in regulation.

Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) recorded 33 saves for the Blue Devils, while Colin Rundell made 31 saves for the Saints.

The Blue Devils picked up 10 penalties for 31 minutes, while the Saints had 11 penalties for 33 minutes. But coincidental penalties tended to be the rule of the evening. Stout was 2-for-6 on the power play, while St. Scholastica was 1-for-4.

Stout will host UW-Superior, Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
