Blue Devils open conference season with loss to Blugolds

MENOMONIE (September 5, 2012) - A young UW-Stout tennis team got a rude introduction to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) when they were blanked by UW-Eau Claire, 9-0, Wednesday.

Junior Emily Grossen (Monroe) had the Blue Devils' (1-1, 0-1 WIAC) closest match, dropping her No. 3 singles match to Maddie Johnson, 7-5, 6-1.

Abby Cornelius (So, Golden Valley, Minn) stayed close in her No. 2 singles match before falling 6-3, 6-3 to Katie Gillman.

Stout will be at UW-La Crosse, Friday, Sept. 7.
