Four singles wins gives tennis team win over Beloit College

UW-Stout 5, Beloit College 4

BELOIT (September 30, 2012) - UW-Stout picked up four singles wins and one doubles win to snare a 5-4 win over Beloit College Sunday.

Emily Gawronski (Fr, Brooklyn Center, Minn) and Elizabeth Burda (Fr, Champlin, Minn) won at No. 3 doubles, downing Emma Koeppel and Dominique Bodoh, 8-6. All three doubles matches were fairly close.# Abby Cornelius# (Sr, Golden Valley, Minn) and Emily Grossen (Jr, Monroe)  lost at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, and Molly Denney (So, Duluth, Minn) and Kelsey Pedersen (Fr, Lake Elmo, Minn) lost at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.

Grossen took a singles win at No. 2, downing Maria Mears, 6-0, 6-1. Pedersen won at No. 4, 6-0, 6-2, over Koeppel, Elizabeth Lehnertz (Jr, Cary, Ill) defeated Maddy Carpenter, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Jadie Hurlburt (Fr, Durand) defeated Paola Schnabel, 6-4, 6-1.

The win snapped a six-match losing streak and Stout improves to 2-6 overall. Beloit is 6-9.

Stout hosts UW-Oshkosh, Friday, Oct. 5 at 3:30 p.m. and Bethany Lutheran, Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
