MENOMONIE (May 1, 2012) - Tara Kimberly (Sr, Baldwin) pitched a complete game win in the opener and the UW-Stout offense cracked out 10 runs in the second game as the Blue Devils will roll into the WIAC tournament on a five-game winning streaking after sweeping Hamline University, 7-1, 4-1, Tuesday at Alumni Field.

Kimberly went the distance and did not allow a run until the seventh inning, scattering five hits, with two of those coming in the seventh inning. Kimberly struck out five in her final home appearance as a Blue Devil.

Stout (20-20) opened the scoring with a single run in the first inning as Alison Gray (Jr, St. Cloud, Minn) doubled in a run.

The Blue Devils added four runs in the third inning as Gray drove in another run and Erin Moss (Jr, Munster, Ind) plated a runner. Lynzi Knudtson (Fr, Melrose) and Moss executed a double steal with Knudtson getting under the tag for Stout's third run of the inning. Moss would come home later on an error. Stout scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Gray was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Moss was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored.

In the second game, Hamline (10-28) opened the scoring on a Lauren Clouston RBI on an infield single, but that would be it.

Laura Vanderhoof (So, Mankato, Minn) started in the circle for Stout and, after giving up three hits and a run in the first inning, allowed only two more hits the rest of the way, recording five strikeouts in six innings. Denise Sawdey (Fr, Medford) pitched the final inning and gave up no hits to earn her first career save.

The Blue Devils knotted the score in the second when Jessica Behnke's (So, Bruce) single brought home Sam Hastings (So, Waukesha).  The Blue Devils got the eventual game winning run in the fourth inning when Hastings smashed a double to centerfield, bringing home Taylor Workman (Fr, Prior Lake, Minn). Hastings would come home on a double steal with Jessica Nicol (Jr, Eau Claire) taking second.

Moss closed out the scoring with a solo home run to left field in the fifth inning.

Nicol was 3-for-3 in the game, while Hastings was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Stout will be at the WIAC Championships, May 4-6, in Eau Claire. The Blue Devils will open the tournament by playing UW-River Falls, Friday, May 4 at 2 p.m.
