OSHKOSH (April 22, 2012) - UW-Stout used an 8-hit, 9-run fifth inning while sending 13 to the plate on their way to a 13-5 second game win over UW-Oshkosh Sunday. In the opener, Oshkosh scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-3 win.

Trailing 5-1 heading into the fifth, Courtney Richardson (So, Miltona, Minn) got things going with a lead-off single and, following a fly out, the flood gates opened for Stout as consecutive singles up the middle by Hannah Sweet (So, Elk River, Minn), Taylor Workman (Fr, Prior Lake, Minn) and Sam Hastings (So, Waukesha) drove in runs.

Stout continued to load the bases and Jessica Behnke (So, Bruce) drew a walk to bring in a run. Pinch hitter Lynzi Knudtson (Fr, Melrose) drove in a run and Erin Moss (Jr, Munster, Ind) and Alison Gray (Jr, St. Cloud, Minn) each drove in two runs to conclude the scoring and Stout led 10-5.

Laura Vanderhoof (So, Mankato, Minn), who entered the game in the third inning trailing 5-0, scattered three hits throughout her 4.2 innings of shutout ball, striking out two and walking one to record the win.

While Vanderhoof continued to keep the Titans scoreless, Stout added two runs in the sixth inning on Richardsons' two-run double and a single run in the seventh on Hastings' single.

As a team, Stout collected 18 hits, one short of the school single game record. The last time Stout pounded out 18 hits was April 19, 2007, a 13-9 win over UW-Superior.

Gray finished the game hitting 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored. Sweet was 3-for-5 and Richardson was 3-for-4. Moss, Hastings and Jessica Nicol (Jr, Eau Claire) were all 2-for-5.

The Blue Devils opened game one with a three-run second inning.

Workman sliced a one out single through the left side and Hastings moved  Knudtson, who was pinch running for Workman, to second base.

Nicol drove in Knudtson with a single to left center and Behnke brought home Nicol and Hastings with a single to right field to give Stout a 3-0 lead.

The Titans threatened in the bottom of the second, but stranded two runners and did not get a runner on again until the fifth inning. Emily Mallek hit a two-out, RBI double to cut Stout's lead to 3-2. Oshkosh took the lead when Julia Burns hit a two-run single in the sixth inning.

Stout did get a runner on with two outs when Sam Stout (So, La Crosse) reached on an infield single in the seventh inning, but Kimberly Lohre came to the circle to fan the only batter she faced to pick up the save.

Stout will be at Carleton College, Tuesday, April 24, at UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, April 28 and host UW-La Crosse, Sunday, April 29 to close out the WIAC regular season.
