UW-Stout 2, UW-Eau Claire 0
EAU CLAIRE (February 3, 2012) -
Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY) recorded 49 saves and he got help from his defense as UW-Stout scored their first shutout of the season, a 2-0 win at UW-Eau Claire Friday.
After a relatively normal first period of nine shots faced, Lescovich turned away 21 shots in the second period, then stopped 19 shots in the third stanza. The 49 total saves was a collegiate-best for Lescovich. The shutout was the junior's sixth career shutout, setting a UW-Stout record.
After a scoreless first period, Stout (8-13-1, 4-10-1 NCHA) got on the board first when Kevin O'Donnell (So, Stoughton) broke the ice at 13:56 of the second period, with an assist from
Charles Lachance (Jr, Quebec City, Quebec).
Stout doubled the score at 13:06 of the third period when
Casey Kirley (So, Hayward) tickled the twine. Assists went to
Jason Cohen (Jr, Anchorage, Alaska) and
Micky Knox (Fr, Warroad, Minn).
Neither team was successful on the power play. Stout was 0-for-4, while Eau Claire (11-10-2, 5-10-1 NCHA) was 0-for-5.
Stout's last shutout was also against the Blugolds, a 2-0 win on Feb. 3, 2011, at Eau Claire. Lescovich had 48 saves in that game.
Stout will close out the home portion of their schedule Saturday, Feb. 4 when they host eighth-ranked UW-River Falls at 7:30 p.m. at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
