STEVENS POINT (December 7, 2012) - UW-Stevens Point struck early and struck often on their way to a 8-0 win over UW-Stout Friday at KB Willett Arena.
Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) was chased after the seventh goal early in the third period and was Hopper's (5-1-2) first loss of the season. Hopper came into the game with a goals against average of 1.80 and had a GAA of 0.98 over the previous five games.
The Pointers (6-5-1, 3-5-1 NCHA) struck for three goals in the first period, two in the second and three in the third.
Joshua Daley scored four minutes into the game on the power play. Kyle Heck scored at 12:37 of the first period with his first goal of the game and Andrew Kolb scored his first goal of the game less than a minute later. The Blue Devils allowed their first shorthanded goal of the season when Johnny Meo scored two minutes into the second period. Heck added a goal at the 15 minute mark of the period to take a 5-0 lead into the second intermission. The Pointers added to the lead in the third period with Kyle Politz scoring on the power play and Meo and Kolb closing out the scoring.
Hopper recorded 31 saves in just over 49 minutes of work.
Eric Wobschall (So, Owatonna, Minn) allowed the final goal and made one save.The Blue Devils (6-4-2, 3-4-0 NCHA) offense was unable to produce a lot of pressure on Pointers' goalie Brandon Jaeger, who recorded 14.
The eight goals were the most Stout has allowed since it dropped an 8-6 loss at St. Scholastica last December. This was Stout's first loss since Nov. 17.
The teams will meet again Saturday, December 8 at 7 p.m. in Stevens Point.
