MENOMONIE (December 1, 2012) - It may not be the prettiest building in all of hockey, but the Dunn County Ice Arena has been very kind to the UW-Stout hockey team so far this season.

The Blue Devils got another solid effort from goalie Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) and completed a two-game home sweep of St. Scholastica Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 win. Stout has won all five of their home games so far this season and have won six of the last seven games overall to improve their record to 6-3-2 and 3-3-0 in the NCHA.

Hopper turned away 35 shots and ran his record to 5-0-2.

And speaking of hot, Zach Vierling (So, Coon Rapids, Minn) is starting to find his groove. Less than 24 hours after netting the game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win over the Saints on Friday, Vierling scored a pair of goals and added an assist.

Vierling opened the scoring for the Blue Devils, with assists from Gavin Tufte (Fr, Ham Lake, Minn) and Garrett Grimstad (Sr, Rochester, Minn) 4-minutes, 48-seconds into the contest.

The Saints came back to tie the game on a power play goal by Kylan Nowakowski midway through the first period.

It took Stout less than three minutes to regain the lead for good when Sam Carr netted his fourth goal of the season at 14:02, with assists by Joe Beaudette (Sr, Blaine, Minn) and Kevin O'Donnell (Jr, Stoughton).

Vierling increased Stout's lead to 3-1 when he scored unassisted on the power play at 15:37 of the period.

Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) added to Stout's lead midway through the second period on assists by Vierling and Grimstad.

The Blue Devil got their second power play goal of the contest when defenseman Ricky Doriott (Sr, Blaine, Minn) scored three minutes into the third period, with assists by Jordan Tredinnick (So, Onalaska) and #Mike Hartviksen (Jr, Thunder Bay, Ontario).

The Saints (3-7-0, 1-5-0 NCHA) came at Hopper hard in the third period. Brett Corcoran scored at the four minute mark of the third, but Hopper deflected the rest of the shots through the remainder of the game.

While Stout held the upper hand in shots early in the contest, the Saints outshot the Blue Devils, 37-33. Colin Rundell had 28 saves for the Saints.

Stout was 2-for-4 on the power play, while the Saints were 1-for-5.

Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 8. Those games will close out first semester play for Stout.
