NEXT GAME: After opening the NCHA and the WIAC seasons last weekend, the Blue Devils (0-2-1, 0-2-0 NCHA, 0-2-0 WIAC) will continue on their five-game road trip to open the season when they travel to St. John's University, Friday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and at Concordia-Moorhead, Saturday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. (time change).

WEBCASTS:  St. John's will provide LIve Audio and Live Stats. All UW-Stout home games are scheduled to be broadcast in a live video stream by Blue Devil Video.

2011-12 BLUE DEVILS:  UW-Stout was all over the map last year, as they kept fans guessing which Stout team would show up.  The Blue Devils started the season 4-1, and were 4-2 after three weekends of play.  They went 1-5-1 over their next seven games, however, and went into the Christmas break 5-7-1. Stout showed signs of life later in the year as they split of pair of closely-contested games with then fourth-ranked UW-River Falls, and played a lot of close games down the stretch.  The Blue Devils grabbed just one win in their final eight regular season games before being bounced in the first round of the NCHA playoffs by the College of St. Scholastica. Stout returns seven of their top eight scorers from last season, but lose All-American Branden Gay, who served as the team's leading scorer the past two years. Sam Carr, an All-NCHA selection a year ago, led the team in assists and will look to distribute the puck again in his senior year.  Carr also scored four goals, giving him 21 points on the season, trailing only Gay.  Teammate Mike Hartviksen gathered 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists.  Four other Blue Devils scored at least 16 points, all of whom will return this season.  Kevin O'Donnell collected 19 points, Jordan Tredinnick, 18, while Garrett Grimstad and Charles Lachance each added 16. Nick Hopper and Tom Lescovich, who will both return for their senior year, split time between the pipes last season.  Each appeared in 15 games, and had very similar stat lines.  Lescovich finished 5-8-0 with a save percentage of .891, while Hopper ended the season 3-9-2, with a .907 save percentage.  |   2011-12 Statistics

2012-13 BLUE DEVILS: Stout has struggled to score goals so far this season, and is being out-scored, 11-6. Half of their goals came against Marian in the season opener, and they managed just three in their two-game series with UW-Eau Claire last weekend. Carl Bomardier is Stout's only player with more than one goal. Newcomer Ricky Doriott leads the team with three points, all assists, and five other Blue Devils have two. After Nick Hopper earned a tie in the net against Marian, Tom Lescovich got the nod for the Eau Claire series. Lescovich allowed eight goals in the two losses, but maintains a .904 save percentage. | 2012-13 Statistics

LAST TIME OUT:  Stout was swept by UW-Eau Claire last weekend at Hobbs Ice Arena. They dropped the first contest, 4-2, only to get beat, 4-1, the follwing night. In the first game, UW-Stout scored two goals within a two minute period in the third period, but the Blue Devils' comeback fell short. Eau Claire scored the first four goals of the game. Carl Bombardier and Danny Ray gave Stout their goals; it was Bombardier's second of the season. Tom Lescovich recorded 33 saves, while the Blugolds' Brandon Stephenson had 30 saves. | Game 1 Story | In Saturday's contest, Stout took Eau Claire into the third period, all knotted up. Garrett Grimstad scored the only goal of the night in the second period to tie the game at 1-1. It was Eau Claire who came up with the difference-makers, though, as they scored three goals in the third to take a 4-1 victory. Andrew Wilcox scored their second and third goals. Tom Lescovich recorded 42 saves for Stout, while Brandon Stephenson notched 22 saves. | Game 2 Story

SCOUTING ST. JOHN'S: The Johnnies have opened the season with a win and a loss. After losing to Bethel in the season opener, they destroyed St. Mary's University, 8-1 in their most recent contest. John Haeg has scored three of the team's eight goals this year in addition to his two assists, giving him a team-high five points. Nick Senta has three points. Saxton Soley and J.D. Wells have each played a full game between the pipes. Soley played in the win against St. Mary's, while Wells was saddled with a loss against Bethel. |  2012-13 Statistics

LAST TIME OUT: John Haeg recorded a natural hat trick and St. John's went on to an 8-1 victory over St. Mary's University, Sunday, Oct. 28 at the MIAC Showcase in Blaine, Minn. Already with a 3-0 lead, Haeg reeled off three straight goals in 11 minutes to give his team a 6-0 lead entering the final stanza. Tobias Linbro and Nick Senta added goals in the third before St. Mary's finally got on the board with under three minutes to play in the game. Saxton Soley turned away 18 shots on goal. | Story and Stats

LAST TIME WHEN THEY MET: St. John's University didn't have near as many shots on net as UW-Stout, but the Johnnies' accuracy was far better as St. John's went out of the Dunn County Ice Arena with a 7-3 win on November 5, 2011. The Blue Devils put 38 shots on net compared to 22 for St. John's. Stout did lead 2-1 in the first period after Luke Dillon and Charles Lachance sandwiched Blue Devil goals around the Johnnies' Jason Johnson's goal. Midway through the third period, St. John's had turned that 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead with four straight goals. Stout cut into the lead when Lachance scored his second goal of the night, on the power play at the midway mark.  It would be all Johnnies after that as Josh Gross scored on the power play with five minutes remaining and Jascha Pettit sealed the deal with a goal in the final minute of play. Nick Hopper absorbed the loss, playing just the first period. Tom Lescovich finished out the game and made 11 saves. The Johnnies' Tony Civello recorded 35 saves on the night.  |  Story and Stats

SCOUTING CONCORDIA-MOORHEAD:  | Competing in Blaine at the MIAC Showcase, Concordia-Moorhead came away with a loss and a tie. They opened with a 5-1 loss to Gustavus Adolphus College before drawing, 5-5, with Hamline the following afternoon. Trent Johnson leads the team with three points, while Andrew Deters and Jordie Bancroft trail with two apiece. Deters two points came on goals, while Bancroft and Johnson have only dished out assists. Chris Neamonitis and Kelly Andrew each played a full game in the net. Neamonitis was saddled with the GAC loss, while Andrew played to a tie. They turned down 35 and 30 shots, respectively, in their appearances. | 2012-13 Statistics

LAST TIME OUT: The Cobbers squandered a 2-0 lead to Hamline, and played to a 5-5 tie, Sunday, Oct. 28, in Blaine, Minn. Dan Hrabowych and Andrew Deters got the scoring started in the first period, getting assists from Trent Johnson on both goals. Hamline battled back, however, knotting the score at two, midway through the second period. The Pipers grabbed a 5-4 lead late in the game, and Concordia was forced to pull their goalie in desparation. The move worked, however, when Deters scored the game-tying goal with 30 seconds to go. A scoreless overtime period led to the team's first tie of the year. | Story and Stats

LAST TIME WHEN THEY MET: Kevin O'Donnell scored with 47 seconds left in the game to give UW-Stout a 2-1 win over Concordia-Moorhead, Friday, November 4, at the Dunn County Ice Arena. All of the scoring came in the final period as both goalies pitched shutouts until the Blue Devils broke onto the board when Jordan Treddinick scored two minutes, 30 seconds into the final stanza, getting an assist by Scott Bell. The Cobbers answered back later in the period when John Orrico got the equalizer at 11:31. The game appeared to be heading to overtime until the Cobbers were called for a holding penalty with just over a minute left in regulation and it took O'Donnell and Company only 18 seconds to score the power play goal. Assists on the goal went to Treddinick and Branden Gay. The Blue Devils shelled Concordia goalie Kelly Andrews with 41 shots, and Andrews turned away 39. Stout's Tom Lescovich turned back 20 shots. | Story and Stats

RECORDS AND MILESTONES:  Tom Lescovich is currently 300 saves shy of 2000 for his career.  Only two Stout goalies have ever reached that milestone:  Tad Larson (2480) and Jeff Dotson (2226).  Additionally, at the beginning of the season, Lescovich was third in team history in save percentage (.911). So far this year, he is maintaining a .907 average. All-time leader Mike Stone's career percentage was .916...Sam Carr needs to duplicate his assist total from last season in order to pass Joel Gaulrapp and current head coach Terry Watkins for fourth all time in assists.  17 assists would put him at 55 for his career.  Also, Carr needs to match his jersey number, 24, in games played this season in order to hit the 100-game milestone for his career.  The last player to do so was his brother, Robert Carr, along with two others in the 2010-11 season. Coincidentally, Robert played in 27 games his final season, which matched his jersey number as well...Charles Lachance has previously spent 149 minutes watching from the penalty box.  Fresh off a career-high 81 minutes last year, Lachance can move into fifth place all-time with six more minutes this year and could grab the fourth spot with 41 more. He needs 51 minutes to move into elite company, as the 200-minute club is currently occupied by just three Blue Devils. Lachance is quickly moving towards infamy as he has already spent 19 minutes in the box in Stout's first three games.

THE COACHES:  Terry Watkins (197-221-26) is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Blue Devils' varsity program. Watkins spent eight years coaching the club team (104-102-16) as Stout prepared to return to varsity status in 1997. Watkins was the 2006-07 NCHA coach of the year when Stout finished in a three-way tie for first. Watkins had a Hall of Fame career at Stout as a defenseman. Stout won a WIAC title in 2010-11, and an NCHA title during the 2006-07 season. Doug Schueller is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Johnnies. He is 36-56-9 overall, with a MIAC record of 26-33-5. Chris Howe is in his fifth season as the head coach of the Cobbers. Since being hired in 2008, Howe has steadily improved the program, and guided them to a breakout 2010-11 campaign. After helping them earn their first MIAC playoff berth since 2002-03, Howe guided them through the playoffs to their first-ever conference tournament championship game.

THE CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the seven-team Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). They are also a member of the five team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The WIAC is made up of Stout, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior and UW-River Falls. The NCHA includes the five WIAC schools as well as St. Norbert and St. Scholastica. St. John's and Concordia-Moorhead are both members of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

HOME ICE ADVANTAGE: Since the 2006-07 season, UW-Stout is 49-23-5 at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

STOUT'S RANKED HISTORY: Stout finished the 2008-09 season as the second ranked team in the USCHO.com poll. With the exception of the Nov. 17, 2008, USCHO.com poll, Stout had been ranked in the top 15 since the Nov. 13, 2006, poll. Stout made their first appearance in the poll on Nov. 27, 2000, when they received one vote, then moved up to 10th the following week. The 2008-09 season ending poll matched Stout's previous high mark of second  in the Jan. 29, 2007, poll. Stout opened the 2009-10 season ranked third, their highest-ever season-opening ranking, but fell out of the polls midway through the season and returned to the top 15, Nov. 22, 2010. Stout was in the 2011-12 USCHO.com poll early in the season, dropped out, returned again, but has since dropped out.

UP NEXT: Stout's home opener is on Friday, Nov. 9 against Augsburg College.
