Stout's comeback bid at Superior falls short

SUPERIOR (November 17, 2012) - UW-Stout scored three goals in the third period to tie the score, but the Blue Devils' comeback bid fell short as UW-Superior bounced back for a 6-4 win Saturday at Wessman Arena.

Trailing 4-1 entering the third period, Stout tied the score with a three-goal furry over the first 12 minutes of the stanza.

Tate Rusk scored on the power play at 4:41 to cut the lead in half at 4-2. Kevin O'Donnell pulled Stout to within one goal at 7:36 and Zach Vierling tied the score with his second goal in as many nights at 12:15.

Less than a minute later, the Yellowjackets recaptured the lead on a goal by Cody Hotchkins at 13:03. The 'Jackets iced the game with an empty net goal by Tanner Dion at 19:24.

The Yellowjackets opened the scoring in the game on a Joey Massingham goal at 8:09 in the first period. Jake Useldinger tied the score for the Blue Devils at 13:54 of the period. Superior's Brett Meyers scored unassisted at 19:19 and a 2-1 lead heading into the second period.

Two second perod Superior goals - by Dion at 6:48 and Pat Dalbec at 14:30 - gave the Yellowjackets the 4-1 lead.

Stout's Tom Lescovich recorded 24 saves, while the Yellowjackets' Drew Strandburg had 17 saves.

Stout is off until Friday, Nov. 30 when they will host St. Scholastica.
