MENOMONIE, Wis. (November 16, 2012) - Power plays told the tale of the game as Stout was able to score on two of their three opportunities and allowed UW-Superior to go just 1-of-12 on their way to a 4-0 win, Friday night at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

Stout (4-2-2, 1-2-0 NCHA) built a 4-0 lead before the Yellowjackets (5-2-0, 3-2-0 NCHA) scored a five on three power play goal late in the game.

Sam Carr (Sr, Roseau, Minn.) and Garrett Grimstad (Sr, Rochester, Minn.) each added a power play goal in the first period as Stout jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one stanza.

Carr's goal, his second of the season, came less than five minutes into the game. Jake Useldinger (Fr, East Grand Forks, Minn.) and Charles LaChance (Sr, Quebec City, QC) were credited with assists. Ten minutes later, Grimstad scored his fourth goal of the season, with assists from Jordan Tredinnick (So, Onalaska) and Kevin O'Donnell (Jr, Stoughton). All three of Stout's power play opportunities came in the opening period.

Zach Vierling (So, Coon Rapids, Minn.) added the first goal of the second period to push Stout into a 3-0 lead. Carr and Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, AK) got the assists on Vierling's first goal of the season. O'Donnell made the Blue Devils' lead even more comfortable with a goal midway through the period. Treddinnick got his second assist of the night on the goal.

Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif.) recorded 32 saves in his second career win against the Yellowjackets. His counterpart, Drew Strandberg, had 13 saves.

Stout killed Superior's first six power plays on their way to their second consecutive win against a ranked opponent. The last time Stout won back to back games against ranked opponents was two seasons ago when they captured two road wins against then ninth-ranked UW-Stevens Point in consecutive nights. They took a 4-1 victory, Nov. 19, 2010, followed by a 5-4 overtime thriller, 24 hours later

Stout will travel to Superior tomorrow night to take on the Yellowjackets in a 7 p.m. contest.
