MENOMONIE (November 13, 2012) - UW-Stout scored a goal in each period and went on to a 3-1 win over 12th ranked St. Thomas Tuesday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Blue Devils (3-2-2) got things going first when Kevin O'Donnell (Jr, Stoughton) scored at 14:20 of the first period, with assists from
Jordan Tredinnick (So, Onalaska) and
Joe Beaudette (Sr, Blaine, Minn).
The Tommies (3-2-1) tied the contest when Michael Krieg scored on the power play at 12:08 in the second period.
Stout grabbed the lead back on a controversial goal by
Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska). Cohen scored from the top of the circle, but it took several minutes for the officials to determine if the puck actually crossed the line.
Garrett Grimstad (Sr, Rochester, Minn) and O'Donnell were credited with the assists.
Grimstad put the game away in the third period, scoring at the 13:47 mark, with assists from
Logan Maly (Jr, Rio) and
Sam Carr (Sr, Roseau, Minn).
Stout's
Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) recorded 32 saves and the Tommies' Drew Fielding had 30 saves.
The win gave Blue Devil coach
Terry Watkins his 200th career win.
Stout returns to NCHA and WIAC action this weekend in a home-and-home series with UW-Superior. The Stout will host the Yellowjackets, Friday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and then will travel to Wessman Arena in Superior, Saturday, Nov. 17 for a 7 p.m. contest.
