2012-13 BLUE DEVILS: Stout is currently on a two-game win streak and has not lost yet in the month of November. In Friday night's 5-2 win over Augsburg, four Blue Devils added their first goals of the season, bringing the total to 13 players. Through six games,19 have recorded at least one point. Kevin O'Donnell, Jordan Tredinnick, Garret Grimstad and Carl Bombardier have each scored two goals. Transfer Ricky Doriott leads the team in points with one goal and four assists. Zach Vierling also has four assists, and Jake Useldinger has dished out three. Nick Hopper and Tom Lescovich, both seniors, have each started and completed three games, each earning one win. Hopper has the two ties and holds a GAA of 2.53 and a save percentage of .918. Lescovich has a slightly better save percentage (.922), but suffered both of Stout's losses. | 2012-13 Statistics

LAST TIME OUT:  Tom Lescovich turned away 43 shots on the way to his first win of the season, a 5-2 victory over Augsburg College, Friday night at the Dunn County Ice Arena. In the second and third periods combined, Augsburg put 32 shots on goal compared to Stout's 17. The Blue Devils, however, put four of theirs in the net, including three in the final period. Charles Lachance got the Blue Devils on the board with a power play goal eight minutes into the game, the only goal of the first stanza. Scott Bell increased Stout's lead to two when he scored midway through the second period. Augsburg answered five minutes later with a goal, cutting their deficit to one heading into the third period. Mike Hartviksen scored his first goal of the season five minutes into the period, starting a flurry of three total goals in a minute and 15 seconds. Augsburg's Mack Ohnsted answered Hartviksen's goal with one of his own 40 seconds later, but Jordan Tredinnick wasted no time increasing the Blue Devils' lead to 4-2, with his second goal of the year. Sam Carr put the icing on the cake with an empty net goal with just over a minute to go. Hartviksen had an assist in addition to his goal, and Logan Maly had two assists on the night. | Story and Stats

SCOUTING #15 ST. THOMAS (3-1-1):  The Tommies enter this weekend ranked 12th in the most recent USCHO Men's Hockey Division III Poll. St. Thomas opened their season at the MIAC Showcase, where they picked up a 3-0 win over Augsburg and a 2-2 tie with St. Olaf. The Tommies were dealt their first loss by Concordia-Moorhead, who Stout went on to beat the following night. 19 players return from last year's team that won the MIAC, including eight who received all-conference mention, led by senior forward Riley Horgan, who has twice received the honors. This past weekend, the Tommies swept two games against St. John's to open their league play. | 2012-13 Statistics

LAST TIME OUT: The Tommies went 2-0 over the weekend, with both wins coming over St. John's University. They traveled to St. Cloud Friday night, and came home with a 4-2 win.  The following night, they played host to the Johnnies and came away with a 3-0 victory.  In Saturday night's game, Alex Niestrom scored five minutes into the first period to take the early lead. That score of 1-0 would not change until less than two minutes remained in the contest. St. John's pulled their goalie with hopes of sending the game to overtime, but Niestrom and Chris Cass each added empty net goals to put the game out of reach. | Box Score

THE SERIES: Stout leads the series, 9-5-1, and is 3-1-1 in the past five. Stout has pitched shutouts in their two most recent meetings, winning 8-0 in 2009 and 3-0 in 2010.  The teams did not see each other last year.

LAST TIME WHEN THEY MET: Stout last met the Tommies early in the 2010-11 season, when the Blue Devils came away with a 3-0 victory in Mendota Heights, Minn. Charles Lachance scored two third period goals and Tom Lescovich made 37 saves in recording his second shutout of the season. After a scoreless first period, the Blue Devils got on the board first when Kevin O'Donnell scored on the power play midway through the second period. Lachance scored his first goal as a Blue Devil five minutes into the third period, and tacked on his second goal of the period with 14:38 off clock, getting an assist from Sam Carr. | Story and Stats

RECORDS AND MILESTONES:  Tom Lescovich is currently 257 saves shy of 2000 for his career.  Only two Stout goalies have ever reached that milestone:  Tad Larson (2480) and Jeff Dotson (2226).  Additionally, at the beginning of the season, Lescovich was third in team history in save percentage (.911). So far this year, he is maintaining a .922 average. All-time leader Mike Stone's career percentage was .916...Sam Carr needs to duplicate his assist total from last season in order to pass Joel Gaulrapp and current head coach Terry Watkins for fourth all time in assists.  He currently has 2 assists, and 15 more would put him at 55 for his career.  Also, Carr needs to match his jersey number, 24, in games played this season in order to hit the 100-game milestone for his career.  The last player to do so was his brother, Robert Carr, along with two others in the 2010-11 season. Coincidentally, Robert played in 27 games his final season, which matched his jersey number as well...Charles Lachance has previously spent 157 minutes watching from the penalty box. Lachance moved into fifth place last weekend and could grab the fourth spot with 33 more. He needs 43 minutes to move into elite company, as the 200-minute club is currently occupied by just three Blue Devils. Lachance is quickly moving towards infamy as he has already spent 27 minutes in the box in Stout's first five games.

THE COACHES:  Terry Watkins (198-220-28) is in his 17th season as the head coach of the Blue Devils' varsity program. Watkins spent eight years coaching the club team (104-102-16) as Stout prepared to return to varsity status in 1997. Watkins was the 2006-07 NCHA coach of the year when Stout finished in a three-way tie for first. Watkins had a Hall of Fame career at Stout as a defenseman. Stout won a WIAC title in 2010-11, and an NCHA title during the 2006-07 season. Jeff Boeser is in his third season as the Tommies' head coach. In his first two seasons since being hired in 2010, Boeser has led his squads to immediate success.  After a 14-10-2 record in his first year, Boeser's Tommies won the MIAC last year in a season that featured 11 straight wins.  Boeser was named MIAC Coach of the Year after the 18-6-2 season.

THE CONFERENCES: Stout is a member of the seven-team Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA). They are also a member of the five team Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The WIAC is made up of Stout, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Superior and UW-River Falls. The NCHA includes the five WIAC schools as well as St. Norbert and St. Scholastica. St. Thomas is a member of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

HOME ICE ADVANTAGE: Since the 2006-07 season, UW-Stout is 50-23-5 at the Dunn County Ice Arena.

2011-12 BLUE DEVILS:  UW-Stout was all over the map last year, as they kept fans guessing which Stout team would show up.  The Blue Devils started the season 4-1, and were 4-2 after three weekends of play.  They went 1-5-1 over their next seven games, however, and went into the Christmas break 5-7-1. Stout showed signs of life later in the year as they split of pair of closely-contested games with then fourth-ranked UW-River Falls, and played a lot of close games down the stretch.  The Blue Devils grabbed just one win in their final eight regular season games before being bounced in the first round of the NCHA playoffs by the College of St. Scholastica. Stout returns seven of their top eight scorers from last season, but lose All-American Branden Gay, who served as the team's leading scorer the past two years. Sam Carr, an All-NCHA selection a year ago, led the team in assists and will look to distribute the puck again in his senior year.  Carr also scored four goals, giving him 21 points on the season, trailing only Gay.  Teammate Mike Hartviksen gathered 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists.  Four other Blue Devils scored at least 16 points, all of whom will return this season.  Kevin O'Donnell collected 19 points, Jordan Tredinnick, 18, while Garrett Grimstad and Charles Lachance each added 16. Nick Hopper and Tom Lescovich, who will both return for their senior year, split time between the pipes last season.  Each appeared in 15 games, and had very similar stat lines.  Lescovich finished 5-8-0 with a save percentage of .891, while Hopper ended the season 3-9-2, with a .907 save percentage.  |   2011-12 Statistics

STOUT'S RANKED HISTORY: Stout finished the 2008-09 season as the second ranked team in the USCHO.com poll. With the exception of the Nov. 17, 2008, USCHO.com poll, Stout had been ranked in the top 15 since the Nov. 13, 2006, poll. Stout made their first appearance in the poll on Nov. 27, 2000, when they received one vote, then moved up to 10th the following week. The 2008-09 season ending poll matched Stout's previous high mark of second  in the Jan. 29, 2007, poll. Stout opened the 2009-10 season ranked third, their highest-ever season-opening ranking, but fell out of the polls midway through the season and returned to the top 15, Nov. 22, 2010. Stout was in the 2011-12 USCHO.com poll early in the season, dropped out, returned again, but has since dropped out.

UP NEXT: This coming weekend, Stout will play a pair of games against UW-Superior. They will host the Yellowjackets on Friday, Nov. 16, and travel up north the following night.
