MENOMONIE (October 6, 2012) - All three of UW-Stout's doubles team won by identical 8-3 scores as the Blue Devils went on to an 8-1 win over Bethany Lutheran at the Sports & Fitness Center Saturday.
Abby Cornelius (So, Golden Valley, Minn) and
Emily Grossen (Jr, Monroe) won at No. 1 doubles,
Molly Denney (So, Duluth, Minn) and
Kelsey Pedersen (Fr, Lake Elmo, Minn) at No. 2 and
Elizabeth Burda (Fr, Champlin, Minn) and
Emily Gawronski (Fr, Brooklyn Center, Minn) at No. 3.
Denney battled through a 7-5 first set win at No. 3 singles, then took the match with a 6-1 second set win. Grossen had to come back from a 6-1 first set loss at No. 2 singles, dominated the second set, 6-0, then won a hard-fourth 10-8 super tiebreaker set.
Pedersen won 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4 singles,
Elizabeth Lehnertz (Jr, Cary, Ill) won 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and
Jadie Hurlburt (Fr, Durand) blanked her opponent at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
The Blue Devils return to action Wednesday, Oct. 10 when they travel to UW-River Falls, then close the regular season Saturday, Oct. 13 when they host UW-Whitewater.
