Stout's comeback at Eau Claire comes up short

EAU CLAIRE (October 26, 2012) - UW-Stout scored two goals within a two minute period in the third period, but the Blue Devils' comeback fell short as UW-Eau Claire took a 4-2 decision Friday at Hobbs Ice Arena.

The Blugolds (1-0-0, 1-0-0 NCHA, 1-0-0 WIAC) scored a pair of goals in the first period and added two more goals in the second period.

Andrew McCabe scored at 6:41 in the first period for the Blugolds and Andrew Wilcox scored with less than a minute left in the period. The Blugolds got their second goal of the game, this one coming midway through the second period by Robbie Anderegg. David Donnellen scored two minutes later and Eau Claire took a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

Stout (0-1-1, 0-1-0 NCHA, 0-1-0 WIAC) took advantage of a pair of opportunities in the third period. Carl Bombardier (So, Quebec City, Quebec) scored his second goal of the season, scoring with assists by Tate Rusk and Casey Kirley (So, Hayward) at 13:12. Danny Ray scored his first goal as a Blue Devils, lighting the lamp at 14:50, with assists by Zach Vierling and Jason Cohen.

Stout's Tom Lescovich (Sr, Clifton Park, NY) recorded 33 saves, while the Blugolds' Brandon Stephenson had 30 saves.

The two teams will meet again Saturday, Oct. 27 in Eau Claire.
