FOND DU LAC (October 20, 2012) - UW-Stout and Marian University traded goals throughout the night and skated to a 3-3 tie in the season opener for both squads Saturday.
Carl Bombardier (So, Valcourt, Quebec) got the scoring underway for the Blue Devils in a busy first period. With assists by
Jason Cohen (Sr, Anchorage, Alaska) and newcomer
Ricky Doriott (Sr, Blaine, Minn), Bombardier scored a shorthanded goal at 11:14.
It didn't take long for the Sabres to answer back - nor would it take long to tally four total goals in the opening period. Marian's Andy Kuechler scored at 12:17.
Jordan Tredinnick (So, Onalaska) put Stout back on top at 13:12 with assists by Kevin O'Donnell (Jr, Stoughton) and Doriott. But only 19 seconds later Marian's Brian Berger evened the score.
Stout broke the deadlock when O'Donnell put Stout up 3-2, with assists by Tredinnick and
Zach Vierling (So, Coon Rapids, Minn), with the team's first power play goal of the season. Marian tied the score on a power play goal at 11:53 of the third period and neither team scored in the overtime session.
Nick Hopper (Sr, Culver City, Calif) recorded 25 saves for Stout, while Josh Baker made 31 saves for the Sabres.
Stout will play a two game NCHA and WIAC series at UW-Eau Claire, Friday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 27.
