MENOMONIE, Wis. (January 28, 2012) - UW-Stout was able to score two second-period goals, but that was not enough as they fell to St. Scholastica, 3-2, Saturday evening at Dunn County Ice Arena.
All of the game's five goals came in the second period and were all scored within 12 minutes of each other.
Chad Golanowki got the scoring started for the Saints (12-5-4, 7-3-4 NCHA) at the seven minute mark. Two minutes later, Paul Marcoux put Scholastica up, 2-0.
The Blue Devils (7-13-1, 3-10-1 NCHA) proved they were quick to rebound, however.
Charles Lachance (Jr, Quebec City, Quebec) answered Marcoux's goal 31 seconds later to cut the lead to 2-1. Then, following the Saints' third goal,
Luke Dillon (Fr, Theif River Falls, Minn.) responded 27 after with a goal of his own.
Dillon and
Scott Bell (Fr, Eagan, Minn.) were credited with assists on Lachance's goal, while Kevin O'Donnell (So, Stoughton) and Lachance helped with Dillon's.
Despite several threatening looks from the Blue Devils' offense, Stout was unable to score the third goal they needed. The loss was their fourth in a row, which marks their longest losing streak of the season.
Nick Hopper (Jr, Culver City, Calif.), who played all but the 50 seconds of empty-net at the end, rejected 27 shots, while Colin Rundell recorded 22 saves on the evening.
The Blue Devils will travel to Eau Claire this Friday, Feb. 3, and return home the following night when they host UW-River Falls. Stout is 1-1 against each of those teams on the season.
