Softball split nailbiters with Platteville

UW-Stout 3, UW-Platteville 2 | UW-Platteville 2, UW-Stout 1

PLATTEVILLE (April 22, 2011) - UW-Stout and UW-Platteville split a pair of close games Friday with the Blue Devils taking the first game, 3-2, and the Pioneers coming back with a 2-1 second game win.

The Blue Devils (15-15, 2-6) scored first in the opening game when Olivia Schroeder (So, Eau Claire) drove in a run with an infield single in the second inning, then Courtney Richardson (Fr, Miltona, Minn) drew a bases loaded walk.

Platteville cut the lead in half with a single run in the third, then tied the game when Ellyn Goerdt drove in a run.

Stout got what would prove to be the winning run in the top of the seventh when Alison Gray (So, St. Cloud, Minn) led off with a double, then came home on Richardson's double to left field.

Tara Kimberly (Jr, Baldwin) got the win, and Bri Conrad (Jr, South St. Paul, Minn) picked up the save when she came on in the seventh inning to end the threat with bases loaded.

In the second game, Platteville got two runs in the fifth inning on a Brittany Caly single.

Stout put together a threat in the top of the seventh when Hannah Sweet (Fr, Elk River, Minn) opened the inning with a double, Sam Stout (Fr, La Crosse) went in as a pinch runner for Sweet and moved to third on Sam Hastings'  (Fr, Waukesha) single. Stout came home on Sammy Peterson's (Jr, Hudson) double, but that is where the scoring ended.

Stout will be at UW-La Crosse, Wednesday, April 27, then will be at UW-Superior, Friday, April 29. Stout will close out the home season with a pair of games, hosting UW-Whitewater, Saturday, April 30 and UW-Oshkosh, Sunday, May 1.
