UW-River Falls 3, UW-Stout 1
RIVER FALLS (April 12, 2011) - UW-River Falls took a pair of games from UW-Stout Tuesday at Ramer Field. The Falcons won the first game, 13-3, in five innings, then captured the second, 3-1.
In the opener, the Falcons (14-11, 5-1) scored nine runs in the fourth inning to put the game away. The Blue Devils (13-11, 1-5) scored a solo run in the fifth, but it wouldn't be enough to stave off the 8-run rule.
River Falls jumped out to a 3-1 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and another in the second before Stout pulled to within one with their own pair of runs in the third as
Alison Gray (So, St. Cloud, Minn) and
Courtney Richardson (Fr, Miltona, Minn) delivered RBI singles.
But the Falcons would go on to score in every inning that they went to the plate, getting a lead-off home run by Hayley Buchanan before exploding for nine runs in the fourth, an offensive output that was assisted by three Stout errors in the inning.
In the second game,
Hannah Sweet (Fr, Elk River, Minn) singled in a run in the first to give Stout the lead. The Falcons took the lead in the third inning when Ashley Goettl hit a two-run home run. River Falls added a single run in the sxith on a home run by Amanda Ryder.
Stout was held to three hits in the first game, but turned around and stroked eight in the second game.
Shanen Stainer was 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils in the second game.
The Falcons churned out 11 hits in the opener, with Ryder leading the way going 3-for-3 with four RBI, driving in all of her runs on a bases loaded home run. Buchanan, Goettl and Alyssa Black each had two hits. River Falls had eight hits in the second game, wth Black and Ryder each recording two hits.
The Blue Devils will host Luther College, Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m., then will go to UW-Superior, Sunday, April 17.
