MENOMONIE, Wis. (April 11, 2011) - Following a seventh inning comeback by UW-Stevens Point in the first game,
Bri Conrad (Jr, South St. Paul, Minn.) blanked the Pointers in the second game, allowing just four hits in seven innings to earn Stout a split on the sunny afternoon at Alumni Field.
Conrad walked two Stevens Point (13-9, 2-4 WIAC) batters and struck out four as she improved her record to 7-3 on the season. The game's only scoring came in the bottom of the third inning. After
Sammy Peterson (Jr, Hudson) scored on an error,
Alison Gray (So, St. Cloud, Minn.) singled to left, driving in a run. The next batter,
Courtney Richardson (Fr, Miltona, Minn.), doubled to center field, driving in Gray.
In the first game of the doubleheader, the Blue Devils (13-9, 1-3 WIAC) grabbed an early 3-0 lead after the first inning.
Hannah Sweet (Fr, Elk River, Minn.) started the scoring off with two-RBI double, followed later by a single by
Erika Wolf (Fr, Elmwood) that drove in the third run of the inning.
After the Pointers tied the game up in the fifth,
Shanen Stainer (Fr, Menomonie) hit a go-ahead solo homer in the bottom of the sixth inning. All effort was wasted, however, when the Pointers stormed back with nine runs in the top of the seventh to go up by the final score of 12-4.
Conrad started the first game as well, completing three and a third, allowing six hits, two earned runs, and a walk. Michelle Jones picked up the win for Stevens Point, while
Brittany Reiter (Fr, Eau Claire) absorbed the loss.
Stout will return to the diamond this Tuesday, April 12, when they travel to UW-River Falls to take on the Falcons. The date of the game has been moved up one day, but the game time remains at 3:30 p.m.
