Day two for Blue Devils ends victorious

Stout 7, Rensselaer Polytechic Insitute 6 | Stout 11, Salve Regina University 7

CLERMONT, Fla. (March 13, 2011) - On the second day of their annual spring break trip, the UW-Stout softball team was victorious over Rensselaer Polytechic Insitute, 7-6 and Salve Regina University, 11-2, Sunday at the National Training Center College Spring Games.

In game one of the day against Rensselaer Polytechic Insitute, after getting down four runs in the first two innings, Courtney Richardson (Fr,  Miltona, Minn) and Hannah Sweet (Fr, Elk River, Minn) each hit in one run to bring it to a two run game. After Rensselaer scored two more runs in the fifth inning, Stout answered with an unearned run from Alison Gray (So, St. Cloud, Minn) and Sam Hastings (Fr, Waukesha) sealed the deal with a grand slam home run giving Stout the lead for the first time of the game of which they held for the win.

Against Salve Regina, the Blue Devils offense came out strong putting together four runs in the first inning, followed by two in the second and one in the third, gaining a sevon run lead before allowing a Salve run. Stout held the lead and topped it off with a two run home run by Erika Wolf (Fr, Elmwood) in the seventh inning.

Stout will play Ithaca College and Transylvania University, Monday, March 14th.
