Falcons come back to down Blue Devils

UW-River Falls 4, UW-Stout 2

RIVER FALLS (February 4, 2011) - UW-Stout jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but UW-River Falls scored four unanswered goals to take a 4-2 win over the Blue Devils Friday at Hunt Arena.

Kevin O'Donnell (Fr, Stoughton) scored twice in the first period to give Stout the lead. O'Donnell scored only two minutes minutes into the game, then added his second goal of the night with less than two minutes left in the period.

The Falcons (10-11-1, 6-9-0 NCHA, 4-6-0 WIAC) attacked quickly in the second period when Chris Salamone put River Falls on the board five minutes into the stanza. It was the first goal Stout (13-10-0, 8-8-0 NCHA, 6-5-0 WIAC) allowed in more than 140 minutes of play after posting two consecutive shutouts.

River Falls put a man into the penalty box, but that didn't stop them from tying the score when Joel Yuel scored shorthanded at 11:22.

The Falcons took advantage of Stout penalties in the third period. Alec Hagaman scored on a power play at 2:20 of the third to give River Falls the lead and Justin Brossman gave his team a two goal lead at 13:52 while on the power play.

Stout played nearly the final three minutes of the game with one man or two men short.

Nick Hopper (So, Culver City, Calif) recorded 31 saves for Stout, while Scott Lewan had 27 saves for the Falcons.

Stout will close out the regular season with a pair of home games. The Blue Devils will host UW-Stevens Point, Friday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and St. Norbert College, Saturday, Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.
