Blue Devil softball sweeps past St. Olaf

UW-Stout 4, St. Olaf 0 | UW-Stout 11, St. Olaf 3 (6 inn)

ROSEMOUNT, Minn (February 24, 2011) - In their second outing of the season, the UW-Stout softball team took the brooms to St. Olaf with a 4-0, 11-3 six inning sweep Thursday at the Irish Sports Dome.

Tara Kimberly (Jr, Baldwin) allowed four hits and recorded five strikeouts to record the first game win as Stout used a four-run fifth inning for all the offense they would need.

Brittany Reiter (Fr, Eau Claire) stroked a two-run, bases-loaded no-out pinch-hit double to right field to get Stout (3-1) on the board first. Sam Hastings (Fr, Waukesha) drove in a run with a groundout and Lauren Clasen (Fr, picked up the final RBI of the game.

Bri Conrad (Jr, South St. Paul, Minn) came on in the seventh inning and struck out two.

In the second game, Stout took the lead in the top of the first when Kelly Conway (Sr, La Crescent, Minn) drove in a run, but the Oles (0-2) took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Stout answered back with six runs in the second inning, highlighted by Alison Gray's (So, St. Cloud, Minn) grand slam home run.

Reiter took over in the pitching circle in the bottom of the second, giving up hits to the first two batters, but went on to strand runners at second and third in the inning. Reiter allowed only four hits and struck out three to get the win.

Shanen Stainer (Fr, Menomonie) smacked a two-out solo home run in the third and Conway hit an RBI double in the fourth and came home on Clasen's single to right field. Stout's final run came in the sixth when Hastings drive in Conway.

Stout will play Augsburg College, Wednesday, March 2, back in the Irish Dome.
