MENOMONIE (February 18, 2011) - UW-Stout scored a goal in each period and the Blue Devils hung on at the end to down UW-River Falls, 3-2, in the opening game of the NCHA Peters Cup quarterfinals series, Friday at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Blue Devils (16-10-0) opened the scoring when
Charles Lachance (So, Quebec City, Quebec) with an unassisted goal at the 16:18 mark of the first period.
Three minutes later, the Falcons (11-13-2) knotted the score three minutes later when Justin Brossman scored on the power play.
Stout scored the next two goals to take a 3-1 lead.
Sam Carr (So, Roseau, Minn) scored at 6:51 of the second and Kevin O'Donnell (Fr, Stoughton) scored at 10:05 in the third.
The Falcons tighted the game at the 16:03 mark of the third period on a Jeff Burke goal. River Falls pulled goalie Scott Lewan with about a minute left, but Stout's
Tom Lescovich (So, Clifton Park, NY) stoned the Falcons for the final minute.
Lewan finished the game with 29 saves, while Lescovich recorded 33.
The teams will meet again Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
