Box Score St. Scholastica 8, UW-Stout 6
DULUTH, Minn (December 2, 2011) - In a game that featured two hat tricks, at least three goals in each period and a hat trick by a player from each team, St. Scholastica outlasted UW-Stout, 8-6, Friday at Mars Lakeview Arena.
Tyler Miller recorded a goal in each period and notched the goal to pull the Saints up by two for the final score late in the third period. With the score tied for the fourth time, Eric Kraft got the game winning goal for St. Scholastica with 5:46 left in regulation and Miller recorded the clincher with less than four minutes remaining.
Stout's
Branden Gay (Sr, Calgary, Alberta) got the hat trick for the Blue Devils (5-5-0, 2-3-) and started the game's scoring only 24 seconds into the contest. Less than two minutes later, Stout had a 2-0 lead when
Luke Dillon (Fr, Thief River Falls, Minn) scored.
But the Saints (6-2-1, 2-2-1) would tie the game up on a goals by by Garet Chumley at the seven minute mark and by Tyler Miller with six minutes left in the first period.
Stout's
Jordan Tredinnick (Fr, Onalaska) gave the Blue Devils a two goal lead before the break, scoring twice in the final minute of the first period.
The Saints came back in the second with a pair of power play goals, the first by Carter Davis at 3:36 and the second by Jeremy Dawes at the 8:50 mark.
Gay broke the tie with his second goal of the night, scoring at 10:03 of the second. St. Scholastica took the lead for the first time in the game. Dave Williams tied the game at 12:34 and Miller scored his second goal of the night at 19:17.
Gay tied the score 51 seconds into the third period, only to see the Saints grab the lead back, 7-6, with 5:46 left in regulation on a goal by Eric Kraft.
The Saints took advantage of the power play throughout the night, scoring three times on five opportunities. Stout could not capitalize on three chances.
Scholastica outshot Stout, 44-29 and sprayed Stout's
Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY) with 25 shots in the second. Lescovich stopped 36 total shots. The Saints' Jojo Jeanetta and Colin Rundell combined for 23 saves. Jeanetta worked the first period. Rundell finished with 20 saves.
The teams will meet again Saturday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m.
