MENOMONIE (December 10, 2011) - For the second consecutive night, UW-Stevens Point put four goals on the board before UW-Stout lit the lamp as the Pointers went on to take both games of the weekend series, winning Saturday, 5-1, at the Dunn County Ice Arena.
The Pointers (5-6-1, 4-4-2) opened the scoring two minutes into the game when Kyle Heck scored the first of his three goals on the night. Heck picked up his second goal only 44 seconds into the second period. The Pointers shot out to a 4-0 lead when Harrison Niemann scored at 11:40 and Kent Detlefson scored on the power play at 16:56.
The Blue Devils finally showed a spark when
Jordan Tredinnick (Fr, Onalaska) scored, with assists by
Mike Hartviksen (So, Thunder Bay, Ont) and
Micky Knox (Fr, Warroad, Minn), at the 18:41 mark of the second period.
Heck scored his final goal of the game, a shorthanded goal at 5:42 of the third period.
The Pointers outshot Stout, 36-31. Stout's
Tom Lescovich (Jr, Clifton Park, NY) had 31 saves and the Pointers' Nick Graves had 30 saves.
Stout will be off until the return to action after Christmas, Friday, Jan. 6 at Bethel University. Stout is not home until Friday, Jan. 20 when they host St. Norbert College.
